Shawn Gutierrez

President

Shawn has held leadership positions over his 30-year career and has a proven track-record in leadership and management as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices.

He is truly enthusiastic about his work and enjoys his job. His favorite stage of a project is collaborating with the client to understand their business objectives. “I spend a lot of time understanding the process and the challenges before suggesting ideas.”

He believes that every great customer experience starts with our team at AtomTech and our purpose of furthering manufacturing progress through technology. “Hearing the excitement around the solutions AtomTech’s team continues to create is always amazing.”

Shawn is a family oriented person, he enjoys spending time with his wife of 22 years, Kristen, his children Isabella and Raphael, and his dogs Coco and Graham. His hobbies are cars, and movies, every genre except horror!

Alberto Macias

Director of Field Operations

Alberto Macias is in charge of the Service group which takes control of HW and SW designs to fully integrate automated systems. They provide specialized engineering services on the field for several industries including automotive, food, and logistics. Alberto has been in the automation industry since 2006, that same year he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Universidad del Valle de Mexico.

Alberto started his professional career as a controls designer which quickly was complemented with field commissioning, programming, integration and execution of automation projects. He has led multiple projects from concept and design to commissioning and final delivery. Ranging from small/individual projects to leveraging the skills of a team on bigger scales, developing and managing controls standards and focusing on exceeding customer’s quality and timeline expectations. He is extremely passionate about automation, controls, manufacturing flexible systems and their integration to information technology.

In his personal life Alberto spends his time with his wife Mitzi, and his three children, Elian, Armine, and Ezra. He considers himself an action hobbyist for the most part; martial arts, boxing, motorcycles, sport shooting, etc. but also enjoys reading a good book, music and tinkering with gadgets and home projects.

Drew Derbyshire

Director of Technology

Drew has been in the automation industry for 12 years, and has a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology from Walsh College. He has led numerous projects dealing with highly technical automation implementations. He runs the Engineering Solutions group at AtomTech, which handles the “special projects”: including IT/OT integration, complex automation, and non-automotive projects.

He takes special interest in finding innovative products and solutions, while making sure that lessons of the past are not forgotten. Given the current trend towards providing more insight into the automated operations, he leverages his knowledge in IT to ensure that stakeholders have access to all the relevant data that their automation provides.

Outside of work, Drew spends most of his time with his wife Jessica, and their dog Layla. He enjoys tinkering with hobby projects, including his house.

Joe Skaff

Director of Engineering

He has enjoyed over 30 years in the field of automation, providing solutions in a variety of industries. He started out his career right after graduating from the University of Toledo with a BSEE. He started out as a Controls Engineer and used his automation experience and skills working his way up to leadership positions.

In his various roles, he lead plant maintenance, new vehicle launches, and managed corporate wide manufacturing execution systems. With his extensive knowledge of Aerospace and Automotive industries, we are very grateful to have him running the engineering department.

In his free time, he spends time with his family. He also enjoys watching golf and football.

Eric Petz

Controls Design Manager

Eric has worked in the Automotive Industry for the past 30 years, to which he has managed Controls Design teams for the last 20 of those years. He has a proven track record of leading multiple design teams across projects simultaneously and has experience in most OEM Standards and Specifications. He likes to focus on building strong customer relationships by trying to go above and beyond expectations by delivering high quality, on-time designs.

Eric also enjoys training and mentoring others, sharing his many years of experience by building strong working relationships.

Eric is married to wife Meggan, they have 3 children: Nolan, Abby, and Brady. They enjoy spending time with family and friends, whether it is barbecuing for large groups, going tailgating at college games, or just hanging around a campfire. His favorite hobby is woodworking or building/remodeling furniture. 

Kevin Hill

Field Service Manager

Kevin has been in the automation industry for 16 years. He has led projects with multiple integrators. He enjoys the new challenges that come with working with all these different manufacturers. As the Field Service Manager, his responsibilities are to help recruit talented engineers, run training classes, and help coordinate projects between AtomTech and our customers.

He believes that the growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.

Kevin is a family man, he spends most of his time with his wife Jen, his children Nathan and Natalie, and their dogs Willow and Brody. He enjoys playing hockey and coaching both his kid’s baseball and softball teams.
